A combined central heating and hot-water supply system comprises a boiler 1 and a valve 3 for connecting the boiler to either the central heating system 6 or a calorifier 8 which heats water flowing in a secondary path 9, 11, a flow responsive device 10 in the secondary path being so connected with valve 3 that when water flows through the secondary path the valve connects the boiler to the calorifier. Both the boiler and calorifier have a small water capacity and large heat exchange surfaces so as to function as instantaneous heaters. The boiler may be gas, oil or solid-fuel fired.
