Abstract

931,787. Photo-electric spectro-fluorescence measurement. AMERICAN INSTRUMENT CO. Inc. Nov. 23, 1960, No. 40251/60. Class 40 (3). Apparatus for measuring spectro-fluorescence includes means for scanning both the activating and fluorescent light through the visible and ultraviolet regions of the spectrum. Light from lamp 12 is dispersed by a grating 17 and reflected on to a sample 11. Fluorescent light from sample 11 is dispersed by a grating 24 and falls on a photo-cell 23. The output of photocell 23 is connected to the vertical deflection plates 34, 35 of a cathode-ray tube 36, the horizontal deflection plates 56, 57 being connected to potentiometers 53, 53<SP>1</SP> coupled to gratings 23, 24. The gratings can be rotated continuously by motors 44, 44<SP>1</SP> or set manually to any position. This permits recording of " activation " or " fluorescence " spectra. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), mirrors are used to " double back " the light path and a light trap is provided to collect activating light which passes through the sample.
