Abstract

931,284. Hinges. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. May 9, 1962 [May 11, 1961], No. 17154/61. Class 65 (2). A hinge, particularly for a vehicle bonnet, comprises a lower bracket 2 for securing to the vehicle body, a top link 7 for securing to the bonnet, and front and rear pivoted links 6, 8, the link 6 being connected to the bracket by a slotted pivotal connection so that at the end of the opening movement the front link can move downwardly under the weight of the bonnet to enable complementary surfaces on the bracket and the link to engage and hold the hinge in its open position. The complementary surfaces preferably consist of a flange 4 on the bracket and an edge portion 15 of the link which engage with a wedging action : this action may be assisted by forming the slot 14 in the link, which co-operates with a pin 13 on the bracket, at an inclination to the axis of the link. A spring may be connected between the pin 13 and a point on the link above the slot to further assist the wedging action. The opening movement of the hinge is limited by a stop 12 on the top link 7 which abuts the edge of the rear link 8.
