Abstract

A ferromagnetic material has the formula Mx Mn3-x Qy Za where M is Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Q is at least one of As, Sb, Bi, Z is one or more of Ge, Ga, Al, B. In Tl, C, Si, Sn, Pb, Sc, Y, Ti, Zr, Hf, N, P where x is 0,03 to 1, y is 1 to 2 and a is 0 to 1. If elements of low atomic number, i.e. B,C,N,P, are present there should not be more than 5 atom per cent. The examples disclose Mn 61,66 at per cent Cu 5,0 at per cent In 1,67 at per cent Sb 31,67 at per cent. Mn 41,7 at per cent Co 8,3 at per cent In 25 at per cent Sb 25 at per cent. Mn 53,4 at per cent Zn 13,33 at per cent In 30,0 at per cent Sb 3,27 at per cent. Mn 65 at per cent Cu 3,4 at per cent Sb 31,6 at per cent. Mn 65,5 at per cent Cu 1,7 at per cent Sb 32,8 at per cent. The compositions are made by reacting the ingredients at 600 DEG -1400 DEG C. preferably 700 DEG -1200 DEG C. for a period of up to 50 hours. Specification 927,312 is referred to.ALSO:A ferromagnetic material has the formula Mx Mn3-#c Qy Za where M is Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Q is at least one of As Sb Bi Z is one or more of Ge Ga Al B.
