Abstract

930,520. Two-part couplings. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Dec. 1, 1961 [Dec. 8, 1960], No. 43079/61. Class 38 (1). An electrical connector unit (Fig. 1) adapted for use either as a plug or socket unit comprises at least three conductive connecting strips as in Fig. 9, each lying in a groove 10 in a separate insulating abutment such as 2 formed, at least at the end, of resilient material to facilitate engagement with a similar unit. A tongue 15 (Fig. 9) pressed out of each terminal strip 12 engages a step 16 (Fig. 7, not shown) at the junction of each groove 10 and a base 1, moulded integrally with the abutments, preventing withdrawal of the strip from the groove. The connector units may be used to interconnect both cables and printed-circuit panels. In a further embodiment (Fig. 11, not shown) the unit is used with a cable incorporating a resilient, insulating thimble-like cover disposed around the end of a cable. Side portions of the cover are thickened towards the small end to form a wedge-shaped section which co-operates with a rubber or P.V.C. straining block to secure the cable in the cover.
