Abstract
930,205. Separating liquids. P. M. VAN DER MEER. Jan. 12, 1960 [Jan. 12, 1959], No. 1036/60. Class 46. The vessel is filled with a mixture of liquids supplied by nozzle 10 until the level reaches the opening 18. When the jet is continued the. greater part of further supply of liquid will escape via port 9 to discharge 16. However due to the shape of the collar 12 there will be a tendency for the lighter liquid in the jet to reverse direction and flow out via 16 while the heavier liquid will carry straight on into the body of the liquid. The dimension of the opening 12 is such as to allow the maximum separation; in practice twice the area of the nozzle.
