Aug. 28, 1959 [Aug. 29, 1958; Sept. 13, 1958], No. 29476/59. Class 20 (3). In a slidable window operating mechanism a guided flexible cable 1 is movable bodily axially by a motor 12 or by hand-operated gearing, through a pinion 10 meshing with a coiled strand of the cable 1, the upper end of the cable being guided in a rigid fixed sleeve 2 and having therein a slot 3 through which extends a bracket 4 secured to the end of the cable 1 and to the lower edge of the window 7. As shown, the sleeve 2, mounted in the body of a vehicle has an extension 2a joined to the part 2 by the gear housing 9 to accommodate the free end of the cable 1. In another embodiment, the bracket 4 has a threaded portion driven by the axially stationary but rotatable cable.
