Abstract
929,509. Casting metals. SCHLOEMANN A.G. April 4, 1961 [April 28, 1960], No. 11941/61. Class 83 (1). [Also in Group V] A die casting or casting machine for metals comprises a stationary mould carrier plate 4, an hydraulically reciprocable mould-carrier plate 7 guided on fixed bars 6, and provided with anchoring rods 8, which, when the mould is closed, extend into the stationary plate 4 and are lockable to it, and one or more pressure pads 32 for the production of the final mould closing pressure, the bars 6 having piston-like parts 21 so that the bars 6 and rods 8 act as an hydraulic piston and cylinder system for reciprocation of the mould-carrier plate 7. The mould (not shown) is constructed in two parts fitted to the plates 4, 7 and the mould may be fed from an injection cylinder 2. Four rods 8 and bars 6 are provided, the ends of the rods 8 being sealed by stuffing-boxes 20, so that to close the mould to the position shown in Fig. 1, fluid under pressure is supplied to the space 22, preferably through ducts in the bars 6. The rods 8 then extend into yokes 34 bolted to the plate 4, and are locked to the plate 4 by movement of pairs of clamping jaws 10, 11, Fig. 2, to engage in annular grooves 9, Fig. 1, in the ends of the rods 8. The clamping jaws 10, 11 are actuated by hydraulic cylinders 14, Fig. 2, through piston-rods 15, 16 and connecting rods 17, whose length is adjustable by the use of turnbuckles 18. Fluid under pressure is then supplied to the pressure pads 32 causing a plate 33 and the locked jaws 10, 11 to move to the right in Fig. 1 to effect the final closing pressure on the mould. To open the mould the pressure is released on the pressure pads 32, so that springs 37 return the jaws 10, 11 to the position shown in Fig. 1, where they are disengaged from the rods 8, fluid under pressure then being supplied to spaces 23. A high pressure pump may be interposed in the fluid supply line to the spaces 23 to overcome any tendency of the mould parts to stick together. The plate 7 may be adjusted on the rods 8 by the use of screw threads 24 and nuts 25, which are rotatable in the plate 7 by means of a chain 28 and chain-wheels 27 fixed to the nuts 25, the chain 28 being driven by a pinion on the shaft of an electric motor 29. The nuts 25 are held in place by rings 26, and rotation of the rods 8 is prevented by blocks 31 sliding in grooves 30 in the rods 8. Specification 796,523 is referred to.
