Abstract

929,039. Cotters. AERPAT A.G. Sept. 7, 1959, No. 30439/69. Class 89 (2). [Also in Group XXVI] The invention relates to a releasable stud which may be used for securing turbine or compressor rotor blades or spacer elements on to a rotor disc, the stud having a sleeve mounted thereon which may be secured relatively to the stud by means of balls engaged in radial holes in the stud which are pressed outwardly so as to enter a shallow annular groove formed in the inner surface of the sleeve, the balls being held in their radially outer positions by means of a spring-loaded plunger engaged in an axial bore in the stud, the plunger having two annular recesses of different depth, the balls engaging in the shallower recess when in their outer positions and in the deeper recess when in their inner positions within the periphery of the stud whereby the sleeve may be moved axially of the stud for assembly or disassembly. The compressor rotor shown comprises two discs 10, 11, the disc 10 carrying spacer elements 14, and the disc 11 carrying blades 45, The spacer elements 14 have lugs 16 which are received in grooves 20 formed at the periphery of the rotor disc 10, the parts being secured together by studs 24. Similarly the blades are formed with lugs 47 which are received in grooves 49 at the periphery of the rotor disc 11, the parts being secured together by studs 53. The stud 24 is shown in Fig. 3 and is formed at one end with a head 25 and at the other with an axial bore 30 in which is disposed a spring-loaded plunger 37, the mouth of the bore being peened over at 42 to prevent disengagement of the plunger. The plunger, which is shown in its two positions in the Figure, comprises a shoulder 40 against which the spring 41 acts, a deep annular recess 43, a frusto-conical surface 44 and a shallow annular recess 39. The stud is formed with radial bores 31 in which are disposed balls 32, the mouths of the bores being peened over at 33 to prevent disengagement of the balls. A sleeve member 34 is engaged on the stud and is formed with an annular groove 35. When the plunger 37 is in its outer position, the balls 32 engage in the shallow recess 39 and are in their outer positions in which they engage in the annular groove 35 in the sleeve 34 which is thereby locked relative to the stud. When the plunger is moved inwardly against the pressure of the spring, the balls engage in the deeper recess 43 whereby the sleeve may be moved axially of the stud. The stud 50 securing the rotor blades to the disc 11 is similar except that the sleeve 51 is formed with a head 52 and the sleeve extends over the full length of the stud 53 to abut against the head 54 thereof.
