Abstract

928,974. Fire-extinguishers. SPECIALTIES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb.1, 1962 [Feb.17, 1961], No.3845/62. Class 47. A charge of fluid medium confined under pressure for a fluid-tight storage container having a valve controlled discharge passage comprises dry free flowing powder, e.g. sodium bicarbonate and a gaseous propellant therefor consisting of between 35 and 40 parts by weight of bromotrifluoromethane, between 65 and 60 parts by weight of sulphur hexafluoride, and a sufficient amount of non-flammable or gaseous mixture which is chemically inert to the powder to pressurize the container to between 160 and 300 p. s.i.g. at 70‹F. As shown a container 10 charged with powder 11 and expellant 12 therefor in the ratio by weight of 40 to 1 is sealed by a frangible diaphragm 16 which is pierced by a cutter 17 operated by a lever 18.
