Abstract
In a contact condenser for a steam turbine wherein water is used for condensing the steam leaving the turbine, the hot condensate obtained in the condenser (not shown) is pumped via line 51 through a nest of tubes 11 surrounded by a turbulent mixture of water and air, and the cooled condensate is then recycled via a throttling valve to the condenser for further use as a cooling medium. The turbulent mixture of water and air is produced by passing a stream of air up through a grill 13, on which flows a horizontal layer of water supplied from a trough 15. The <PICT:0928774/III/1> water that collects in tank 18 is recirculated by pump 19; while pump 17 recirculates the water leaving grill 13 via trough 16. A constant bleed of condensate from the main circuit is removed for use as boiler water feed.
