Abstract
947,915. Steam condensers. G. & J. WEIR Ltd. Dec. 9, 1960 [Dec. 15, 1959], No. 42619/59. Heading B1B. Steam is condensed in a condenser comprising a shell 2, with an inlet 8 for the steam to be condensed, and cooling-tubes connected to water-boxes at each end of the condenser, the condenser being associated with an air-cooler 10, and the condenser and the cooler being supplied with independent streams of cooling water. A mixture of air and steam is drawn through duct 13 into the cooler, and the air is withdrawn through duct 18 by an ejector or pump (not shown). The condensate from the cooler is passed through duct 15 to the condenser at a point where it can be re-heated. The combined condensate is withdrawn from the condenser via outlet 9. In the condenser shown, there are two passes of tubes 3 and 4, connected to three water-boxes 5, 6 and 7. The cooler 10 also has two passes of tubes 11, 12, but the cooling-water supply to these tubes is separate from the cooling-water supply to the tubes in the condenser. The Specification also describes a condenser which has the air-cooler incorporated within the shell.
