Abstract

928,332. Extruding. L. SCHULER A.G. March 13, 1961 [May 4, 1960], No. 9038/61. Class 83 (4). A backward extrusion press has a pair of punches 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, or a pair of dies, mounted on a reciprocable carrier 5 whose stroke is limited by adjustable stops 19 against which it is held during pressing by spring means. The carrier 5 may be slidable but is preferably pivoted on a fulcrum 6 and actuated through a torsion bar 9 which provides the spring holding pressure, crank 10 and follower 11 working in a cam groove 12. Cam 13 is driven through gearing 15 from a mainshaft 14. A reciprocating ram 2 carries a die 3. In another embodiment a spring forming part of a drive member is used to pull and push the carrier against the relevant stop. The stops 19 have curved rear surfaces fitting into wedges 16 which are adjustable by nuts 18.
