Abstract

926,881. Windows. J. F. ARMSTRONG. Nov. 20, 1959 [Nov. 27, 1958], No. 38274/58. Class 20 (3). A mult-glazed cavity window comprises a timber frame 1 with a weather-resisting stop 2 of wood against which the multiglaze unit 8 abuts, and an an internal glazing bead 3 screwed to the frame 1 by screws 5 at an angle to the vertical of about 27 degrees to draw the bead 3 up against the glazing unit 8, this latter comprising an end capping of P.V.C. &c. providing channels 7 for receiving the edges of the panes 8 and separating the panes by a hollow part 9 whose faces contact the panes to form a primary seal. To this end the contacting faces have a groove 10 housing a butyl or rubberized cord 11. The upper wall of the part 9 is ribbed and has bores 17 connecting the space 18 with the space 6 within the part 9 and the space 6 may contain silica gel or other desiccant. The stop 2 is preferably independently formed and secured to the frame by a tongue 4. The inwardly facing faces of the stop 2 and bead 3 are stepped as at 14 to provide a recess to accommodate the outer flanges 13 of the channels of the capping and an overlying secondary sealing strip 15 of laminated butyl, the overhanging ribs 14 pressing a portion of the strip 15 against the panes 8.
