Abstract

926,102. Rotary sprayers. BIRFIELD ENGINEERING Ltd. Dec. 1, 1960 [Dec. 4, 1959], No. 41205/59. Class 69 (3). A rotary crop &c. sprayer comprises an atomizing gauge in two cylindrical parts 46, 47, sleeved one on each of the two enlarged ends 32, 31, of a bobbin-shaped hub 30 so as to overhang the reduced diameter centre portion 33 of the hub whilst leaving an axial gap 48, between their adjacent ends, through which the liquid to be sprayed may be introduced via a pipe 49, the hub 30 being rotatably mounted by means of cup-and-cone ballbearings 21-23 and 26-28 received within its enlarged ends, on a shaft 17. As shown, the shaft supports a two part air duct 11, 12 and is axially bored for the supply of lubricant to the hub bearings, the outer end of the hub and shaft being closed by a cap 36 screwed to a bearing retaining ring 34 in the hub end. The inner end of the hub carries two rings 41, 42, serving to clamp therebetween the bases 43 of a number of windmill blades 44 which effect rotation of the hub on passage of air through the duct 11, 12. The gauge part 46 is larger than the part 47 and effects the main atomizing function, the part 47 serving to prevent eddy currents.
