Abstract

A dermatological preparation for anti-inflammatory skin conditions comprises one or more corticosteroids and crotonic acid N-ethyl-o-toluidide in admixture with a pharmaceutical carrier. The preparations contain 0.1 to 1.0% of the corticosteroid and 2-10% of the crotonic acid-N-ethyl-o-toluidide. Specified corticosteroids are hydrocortisone, hydrocortisone acetate and prednisolone. The preparations may be solids, liquids or semi-liquids; ointments and lotions being the preferred form and these may be water-in-oil emulsions or oil-in-water emulsions. Aerosols in which the active ingredients are dissolved in a solvent such as isopropanol and packaged with a propellant, e.g. dichloromethane, may be used. Many carriers, e.g. alcohols, polyethylene glycols, mineral and vegetable fats and oils, and emulsifiers are exemplified. Optional ingredients are (a) preserving agents, e.g. p-hydroxybenzoic acid alkyl esters, 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate or sorbic acid, and (b) bactericides and antimycotics, e.g. 5,7 - dichloro - 8 - hydroxyquinaldine.
