Abstract
923,559. Bearings. T. WATT. May 8, 1961 [May 8, 1960], No. 16710/61. Class 12 (1). In a bearing assembly having ball-bearings 1 resiliently mounted in a housing 10, an inner race is retained on a hub 2 by a circlip 4 and an outer race is encased in an annular lining 6 which is abutted by a rubber annulus 9 supported by the housing 10 and which extends to axially-spaced outwardly-projecting radial flanges 14. The lining 6 comprises two parts and may have outwardly-directed flanges 7, Fig. 1, which can be held together by a circumferential strip 11, Fig. 2. The flanges 7 can be omitted and the parts of the lining can overlap. The rubber annulus 9, having an inwardlydirected rib 19, Fig. 6, also serves to spaceapart the bearings and the rib 19 is encased by flanges 13 of the lining 6. Alternatively, the rib 9 can be omitted so that the flanges 13 abut each other. The rubber annulus 9 may comprise flat annular members 9d, Fig. 7, having ventilation passages 20 therein. The bearing may have a channel-shaped sealing ring which also serves as a lubricant reservoir. A neoprene &c. ring may be used to spaceapart the bearings. The rubber annulus 9 and the housing 10 may be split.
