Abstract

580,957. Oil seals. WESTON & CO., Ltd., C., and BUSH, R. E. March 23, 1945, No. 7344. [Class 122 (v)] To prevent oil leakage along a crankshaft 12 a split artificial rubber packing ring 21, situated between the bearings 16 and a flange 13 on the shaft, has a flange 27 contacting the shaft and an annular ridge 31 having a slight clearance from the flange 13. The ring housing comprises an attachable portion 23 secured to the motor casing to hold the ring under radial compression, and a portion 22 integral with the motor casing. The ring may have an annular groove 26 and comprise a frusto-conical portion 28 and a cylindrical portion.29.
