Abstract

An adhesive suitable for bonding plastic sheet material such as polyvinyl chloride to metal surfaces is a blend of a nitrile rubber such as a rubbery copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile or of butadiene, acrylonitrile and a minor proportion of methacrylic acid (20-60%), a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer modified by the presence of a minor proportion of carboxyl or hydroxyl groups (20-50%) and an epoxy resin (20-50%). The adhesive may contain rubber curing agents, exemplified by zinc lupetidine dithiocarbamate, dibutyl ammonium dibutyl dithiocarbamate, zinc dibutyl dithiocarbamate, tetramethyl thiuram disulphide, di-pentamethylene thiuram disulphide with or without sulphur, di-pentamethylene thiuram tetrasulphide and dimethyl diphenyl thiuram disulphide, in an amount of 0,1-5% of the solids. The adhesive may be dissolved, e.g. in a 4 parts methyl ethyl ketone, 3 parts toluene and 1 part isopropanol mixture, to make a 10-40% solution.
