Abstract

921,917. Remotely operated fastenings; hook fastenings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 19, 1961, No. 18324/61. Class 44. [Also in Group XXXIII] Thrust reverser doors 1 of a jet propulsion engine are moved by at least one actuator 10 and are latched in the inoperative position by mechanism 3 each including an actuator 11 fed, with actuators 10, from a common supply, control valve 9 and pressure source 7, movement of the doors to the inoperative position initiates actuation of actuators 11 to latch the doors in the inoperative position. The mechanisms 3 comprise a hook 12 and crank 16 pivoted at 14, 17 respectively, to beam 15 and interconnected by rod 18; stops 29, 32 on crank 16 co-operate with stops 30, 33 on beam 15 and with overcentre mechanism 35 to define limit positions of the hook 12. A lever 24 pivoted to crank 16 at 26 is connected via a slider 21 to a piston 41 in actuator 11. With valve 9 as shown, fluid is supplied via conduits 58, 54 to move pistons 65 of actuators 10 to move doors 1 to the inoperative position. The door stirrup 4, Fig. 2, engages and rotates hook 12 to move piston 41 to the left, to uncover port 42 and fluid then moves piston 41 to fully engage the hook 12 with stirrup 4, the over-centre mechanism 35 holding the hook engaged and the stops 32, 33 in abutment, Fig. 3, not shown. The piston 41 moves a piston 47 to uncover ports 44, 45 to allow the fluid in conduit 58 to flow back to reservoir 8, an adjustable orifice 6 maintaining a pressure in pipe 58 at a sufficient low level to hold the doors in the latched position. Fluid also flows to reservoir 8 via passages 65 in piston 45 and conduits 56, 59, 64. For thrust reversal, valve 9, which may be operated by a throttle lever, is moved to the dotted line position, Fig. 1, to supply fluid via conduits 59, 56 to firstly move pistons 41 to the right to rotate hook 12 clockwise until stirrup 4 is disengaged, the overcentre device 35 moving crank 16 until stops 29, 30 abut. Springs 51 move pistons 47 to close ports 44, 45 and fluid moves the piston of actuators 10 to move the doors 1 to the operative positions. Pistons 41 close ports 42. A simpler fluid pressure system is given in Fig. 4, not shown.
