Abstract

921,595. Rejection filters. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. May 24, 1961 [June 4, 1960], No. 18672/61. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XXVII] Interference, from e.g. sparking plugs or switch contacts, is reflected back to the source by means of a 4-terminal network having a characteristic impedance widely different from that of the line in which it is inserted. The network is designed to have a reflectivity of about 98%. The sparking plug suppressor of Fig. 1 comprises a coil 12 of fine wire wound upon an insulating former and located within a metallic shell 10 designed to fit over the plug. The space between the coil and the shell is filled with an artificial resin body 16. The characteristic impedance of this arrangement may be e.g. 9600# Magnetic losses within the suppressor may be increased by winding the coil on a ferrite core. A suppressor having a very low characteristic impedance, e.g. 0.02#, may be constructed from a pair of wide strip conductors 20, 21, Fig. 2, separated by a thin layer 22 of material having a high dielectric constant. The structure may be rolled up. In an alternative arrangement, a conductor 30, Fig. 3, is coated with a thin layer 31 of barium titanate upon which is formed a silver electrode 32.
