Abstract

920,196. Disc brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Sept. 22, 1959 [Sept. 22, 1958], No. 30228/58. Class 103 (1). In a calliper disc-brake assembly a fixed U-shaped pad housing 1 straddles a minor portion of the brake disc 5, the limbs of the housing are formed with openings to receive brake pads 7 which are detachably mounted therein and piston and cylinder assemblies 8 are provided in a U-shaped calliper housing which embraces the pad housing 1 such that when pad replacement is necessary the calliper housing is movable into a position (as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 6) to uncover the pad housing and permit access to the brake pads 7. Since the brake torque reaction will be taken entirely by the pad housing 1 the latter is preferably made of steel whilst the callipar housing may be constructed from light alloy.
