Abstract
917,153. Firing coke oven batteries. KOPPERS G.m.b.H., HEINRICH. Nov. 16, 1961 [Nov. 18, 1960], No. 40989/61. Class 51 (1). A top-heated, horizontal coke oven battery is fired with combustible gas comprising petrol vapour mixed with flue gas and having less than 5% oxygen and a calorific value of 3600-3900 K cals. per NM<SP>3</SP>, the firing reversals being timed at 8-12 minutes, and the fuel gas nozzles furthest away from the entry of the fuel gas into the coke-oven distributing duct being given a cross-sectional area increased up to 40% over that used with coke oven gas operation. The petrol used has a boiling-range 30-150‹ C., preferably 40-100‹ C., and the flue gas is derived from the waste gases produced in the battery heating system. The calorific value is preferably controlled to 3650- 3850 K cals. per NM<SP>3</SP>. The invention may also be applied to underjet coke areas.
