916,828. Combing machines. WHITIN MACHINE WORKS. April 10, 1961 [April 12, 1960; Oct. 4, 1960], No. 12802/61. Class 120 (1). A combing machine half-lap has the rows of needles spaced from each other by amounts increasing progressively from front to back of the needle bed. The progressively closer spacing may be arranged in stages, each stage having a group of slots of equal spacing. The needle assemblies 20 have their needles secured by soldering, the butts of the needles extending below the bottom edge of the bars to which the needles are secured. To secure the bars in the needle bed 13, the lower portions of the bars are dipped in bonding material or a cement, the bars are inserted in slots, and the needle bed heated in an oven.
