A conveyer belt having rubber or like outer layers 1, 2, is reinforced with one or more layers of longitudinal metallic cables, such ae 3 all the cables of which are " resilient " i.e. capable of substantial stretch, and may have layers, such as 4a, 4b of transverse cables which are either wholly " resilient " or some " resilient " and some " non-resilient," the latter being preferably in one layer only below the resilient layers to cause the belt under tension to become concave on its surface. The following arrangements of cables are described: (a) a single layer of longitudinal resilient cables of opposite hands on the right and left-hand sides of the centre line of the belt associated with an upper layer of lateral resilient cables and a lower layer of non-resilient cables, or with upper and lower lateral layers each of alternate resilient and non-resilient cables; (b) upper and lower longitudinal resilient layers of cables of opposite hand in the two layers, without lateral layers; (c) upper and lower identical longitudinal layers enclosing a single resilient lateral layer, or alternating with lateral layers the upper, or two upper, of which is or are of resilient cables, the lower or lowest being of resilient or non-resilient cables. The cables in the layers may be at an angle up to 30 degrees to the longitudinal and lateral directions of the belt. Additional layers of lateral cords of textile material may be provided.
