Abstract

912,856. Air filters. BRIGGS & STRATTON CORPORATION. July 18, 1961, No. 26019/61. Class 8(2). An air intake filter element 11 suitable for use with an I.C. engine is constructed of porous foamed plastics material e.g. urethane and has an integral outwardly extending peripheral ridge 34 which is compressed between facing surfaces 22, 26 of upper and lower casing members 14, 13 respectively held together by a conventional nut bolt and spider 9, 8, 7 thereby forming a seal preventing by-passing of the element 11. An inwardly directed ridge 39 is compressed between the bottom of casing portion 14 and an inwardly directed flange 38 of a liner 15. In operation ambient air is drawn through apertures 20 in the casing bottom, the element 11 which may be soaked with oil, a horizontal passage 31, apertures formed by spaced legs 36 of the liner 15 and the engine inlet 6.
