Abstract
911,259. Motor vehicle driving gear. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. Aug. 23, 1961 [July 21, 1960], No. 25404/60. Classes 79(2) and 79(3). In a motor vehicle power unit, the engine 1 is disposed longitudinally at one end of the vehicle and the drive is transmitted through a clutch to variable speed gearing 2 of which the span of the input and output shafts 3 and 4 is sufficient to afford a working clearance between the output shaft 4 and the periphery of the engine's flywheel 5; the variable speed gearing 2 being housed in a casing located at the opposite side of the flywheel and clutch to the engine; the output shaft 4 and a final drive differential gear assembly 6 being housed in the sump .7. and the road wheels 8 at that. end of the vehicle being driven through shafts 9 and 10 incorporating universal joints 11, 12 and 13, 14 respectively.
