Abstract
911,170. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. SOC. GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES ALSTHOM. July 29, 1960 [July 30, 1959], No. 26542/60. Class 35. Coolant is introduced into and subsequently ejected from ducts in the rotor of a dynamo-electric machine by centrifugal pumps rotationally fast with the rotor. Coolant, circulated by pump 16 through cooler 17, is sprayed at 10 into an annular channel 7 which being fixed to rotor shaft 8 forms the inlet pump, passes through cooling ducts 23 in rotor 4, emerges at ejector 12 into a fixed annular lipped tank 13 (the outlet pump), and returns to reservoir 15. Tubes 2, 3 between pumps and ducts have insulating sections (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). Ducts 23 may be connected in parallel as shown or in series, in which case the centrifugal pumps are at the same end of the shaft. Several ducts 23 may be fed by tubes 2, 3; tube 2 may be replaced by an axially directed channel in the rotor connected to several transverse blank-ended channels from which other channels branch out to carry coolant to the windings (Fig. 6, not shown).
