Abstract
910,900. Degasifying molten metals. HUETTENWERK SALZGITTER A.G. Nov. 20, 1959 [Nov. 24, 1958], No. 39372/59. Class 72. In a process for the treatment of fluid metal, especially steel, disposed in a ladle 5, in a vacuum chamber 1 above it, with two pipes 2 dipping into the bath, a melt is subjected to forces of a lowfrequency magnetic field 3 so as to flow continuously through one pipe 2 into the chamber 1 and thence through the other pipe back into the ladle 5. The pipes 2 differ in length and/or are spaced apart so that the degassed melt flowing out of the chamber 1 is separate from the incoming melt not yet degassed to prevent mixing.
