909,931. Ash scrapers. UNION OIL CO. OF CALIFORNIA. Aug. 4, 1960, No. 27123/60. Class 51 (1). A rotatable ash scraper for the top of an underfeed kiln used for distilling oil from shale has an inclined outer scraper bar and an inner scraper bar of lesser inclination. The outer sloping scraper bar 204 is secured to a rotatable platform 202 mounted on a shaft 200, and an inner substantially horizontal scraper bar 206 is secured to the lower end of the shaft 200. The shaft 200 is supported coaxially with the kiln and rotated together with the platform 202 and the scraper bars by a motor 208. In a modification, Fig. 4, a circular supporting plate 400 having a gear ring at its periphery has a plate 404 carrying sloping scraper bars 406a, 406b, 406c secured coaxially below it. Three substantially horizontal scraper bars 408a, 408b, 408c extend from a central shaft 410 to the sloping scraper bars 406a, 406b, 406c. U.S.A. Specification 2,640,019 is referred to.
