Abstract

908,930. Pipe couplings; non-metallic pipes. RUHRCHEMIE A.G. Jan. 7, 1959 [Jan. 7, 1958], No. 627/59. Classes 99(1) and 99(2), A pipe connector is made of high-density polyethylene having a molecular weight, as determined viscosimetrically, greater than 50,000 and is provided with ribs. The high density polyethylene may be produced by the methods described in Specifications 799,823 and 801,031. As shown in Fig. 1, a T-piece connector is provided with internal ribs 10 of saw-tooth form in axial section which are flexed inwardly towards their roots when the connector is mounted on a pipe and bear resiliently against the pipe to provide a fluidtight joint. The ribs may extend around a part only of the inner surface of the connector, two similar series of ribs being disposed in diametrically opposed positions. The connector may also be in the form of an elbow, a cross, a sleeve, a reducer or be provided with screw-threads. It may be used to connect synthetic resin, metal or asbestos-cement pipes. As shown in Fig. 4, a reducing pipe member made of high density polyethylene, is provided with internal ribs and external bevelled grooves 13 which are adapted to receive the ribs 10 of the reducer when connected thereto.
