Abstract

908,892. Gramophone disc recording. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 19, 1959 [March 10, 1958; Dec. 29, 1958], Nos. 7598/58 and 41821/58. Class 40 (2). The capacity between a probe electrode 9 and a conductive surface associated with a disc being cut 2 are referred to a bridge network 10 of the type described in Specification 581,164 [see Group XXXVI] to derive an output corresponding to surface irregularities or warpage of the record blank which is fed either to electromagnet means 19, 20 controlling the depth of cut or to a monitor meter. Advance information of the signal to be copied from a master magnetic tape is obtained from auxiliary heads in known manner and fed to the bridge at 25 to vary the depth of cut according to the amplitude of " mono-" signals or a signal corresponding to required hill-and-dale cutting as in stereo recording may be fed in. Alternative bridge arrangements are described in connection with Fig. 2 (not shown) and the Figure accompanying the Provisional Specification.
