Abstract

908,244. Valves. FIORENTINI, P. Jan. 12, 1960 [Jan. 24, 1959], No. 1056/60. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVI] Packing suitable for the periphery of a butterfly valve disc 3 of the kind having a spherically formed surface to coact with a correspondingly shaped, chromium-plated seating 2 consists of a rubber or synthetic plastic ring 8 of cross-section similar to that of a pneumatic tyre with annular reinforcement 12, 13 at each inner edge. The ring is first formed as in Fig. 4 after which the reinforcements, each consisting of a ring of stranded steel &c. wire surrounded by a helically wound strip of rubber or plastic material harder than that of the body of the ring, are inserted and the ring placed in a mould and heated or vulcanized. The valve shown has two sealing rings, each held in a groove by a plate 10 secured by screws 11 to the valve disc, and to correspond with the shape of each groove the reinforcing rings 12 are of smaller diameter than the reinforcing rings 13.
