Abstract

<PICT:0907629/III/1> A process for the formation of a hollow, body from a finely divided powder 3 comprises surrounding one or more yieldable cones 1 of a non-explosive material which may, after the process, be removed from the body with a layer of powder 3 contained in a thin walled container 4, and positioning and detonating a layer 6 of high-explosive about the contained powder. The finely divided powder may be a non-metal, e.g. graphite, silicon, the hollow, shaped body being of an individual non-metal or of a combination of a non-metal with a metal. Hollow bodies of individual metals are also quoted as examples. The process is directed towards making tubes of non-metals or combinations of non-metals and metals, i.e. a tube having a non-metal at one end, a metal at its other end and a mixture at a mid-portion.
