Abstract

The invention comprises a compound having the formula: <FORM:0907422/IV (b)/1> and a process for the preparation thereof by subjecting to oximation a compound of the formula <FORM:0907422/IV (b)/2> in which formulae R111 represents hydrogen or a lower alkyl group containing from 1-8 carbon atoms, R1 represents carbonyl oxygen or a cyclic ketal radical of the formula <FORM:0907422/IV (b)/3> wherein R11 is an alkylene radical containing not more than 8 carbon atoms and the attaching oxygen to carbon bonds are separated by a chain of at least 2 and not more than 3 carbon atoms. The oximation may be effected with a hydroxylamine mineral acid salt in the presence of a base, e.g. pyridine. Compositions useful as central nervous depressants containing the above compounds are administered orally or parenterally as tablets, powders, pills, capsules, solutions, emulsions, suspensions, syrups, and elixirs.
