Abstract

907,227. Spring suspension units. BERGEN PIPESUPPORT CORPORATION. March 3, 1961, No. 7813/61. Class 108(3). A spring suspension unit for piping comprises a compression spring 50 which is prestressed between lower and upper plates 40, 41 by adjustment of nuts 54, 55 on a suspension bolt 51 before the unit is secured by a universal connector 30 to a support, not shown, the loading of the spring being finally adjustable by means of a hollow member 38 which threadedly engages a rod 36 which carries the spherical head 35 of the universal connector 30 and is welded to the upper end wall 17 of a housing 15. The adjusting member 38 has a number of radially-spaced bores 39 for reception of a lever which can be introduced into the housing through one of two windows 21, 22 each of which is defined by a pair of spaced-apart side walls 20 and is enlarged at its upper end by recesses 23 in opposed portions of the side walls. An indicator plate 24, mounted over the window 22, has scales 27, 28 which co-operate with an indicator arm 48 on the periphery of the upper plate 41 to indicate respectively the amount and the travel of the load. A basically similar embodiment is also described in which the spring 50 is replaced by a number of disc-spring assemblies.
