Abstract
906,342. Endless chain conveyers. FREEMAN (ENGINEERS) Ltd., A., and FREEMAN, A. June 29, 1959 [March 31, 1958], No. 10237/58. Class 78 (1). Excessive strain developing in the chain of an endless chain conveyer is relieved by means responsive to distortion of a part of the chain guideway for controlling the operation of the prime mover. As shown, an endless roller chain 2 is driven by two driving-mechanisms 5, 51 and runs in a guideway 4 which is formed in two sections A, B connected by couplings 15, the coupling 15 associated with the driving mechanism 5<SP>1</SP> being provided with a switch 20, 21 in the control-circuit of a motor 6 drivirg an endless chain 11 provided with pushers 12 which engage the rollers 13 of the chain 2. The switch 20, 21 is mounted between plates 16, 17 rigidly secured to the guideway sections A, B, respectively and is actuated when the tension in the chain 2 reaches a predetermined value and causes relative movement between the plates 16, 17, when, for example, the two driving mechanisms 51 are not operating in synchronism, thereby controlling the speed of either or both motors or, alternatively, bringing an auxiliary driving- motor into operation to relieve the strain on the chain 2 at a particular section.
