Abstract
905,880. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. BUCK, J. W. June 28, 1961 [June 30, 1960], No. 23415/61. Class 106 (5). A liquid measuring and dispensing device comprises a rotary plug cock type dispensing valve having an oblique partition 13 dividing the valve into at least two chambers, one being an inlet chamber 14 connected to a source of liquid to be dispensed and another an outlet chamber 15 connected to a spout 10 or the like, a fixed coacting casing 2 having at least two transfer ports 7, each of which is connected to a calibrated measuring vessel 4, 5, and displaceable elements 16 dividing the vessels into inner and outer chambers, whereby, when the rotary plug is positioned to connect the inlet chamber 14 to the inner chamber of one of the vessels to effect filling thereof and the outlet chamber 15 to the inner chamber of the other vessel to effect emptying thereof, the movement of the element of the vessel being filled displaces fluid from its outer chamber through a transfer conduit 18 to the outer chamber of the vessel being emptied to act on the element of that vessel and assist the discharge of liquid therefrom. The inlet chamber 14 of the valve 3 is connected by a flexible conduit 20 to the source of liquid to be dispensed and a handle 11 is provided with which the valve is rotatable to connect the inlet chamber 14 to one or other of the ports 7 leading to the vessels, the other port then connecting the outlet chamber 15 to the other vessel. The elements 16 may be in the form of pistons or, as shown, diaphragms and the fluid displaced between the outer chambers of the vessels through the conduit is preferably liquid. A number of vessels arranged as coacting pairs may be disposed radially around the outer casing.
