Abstract

904,991. Valves. PULMAN, P. T., and HORSFALL, G. D. S. June 1, 1960 [June 8, 1959], No. 19535/59. Class 135. [Also in Group XXX] Liquid or particulate material is supplied to a receptacle, e.g. an animal watering or feeding trough, under the control of a valve comprising of flexible tube 13 which is adapted to be squeezed against the rear wall 16, of a casing by either limb of a pivoted T-shaped member 18 depending upon whether the operating arm of the latter is in the full line or dotted line position; a spring 21 urges the operating arm into the former position. The operating arm, which passes through a hole 19 in the front wall 20 of the casing, has a slide 24 thereon connected to one end of the trough; the slide 24 is adjusted so that when the trough is empty the operating arm occupies a midposition in which neither limb of the member 18 distorts the tube. The wall 16 is provided with two pairs of integral or detachable glides 22, 23, which both prevent lateral splaying of the tube 13 and act as stops for member 18. The wall 16 may be formed with a raised block against which the tube is squeezed; rollers may be provided on the limbs of the member 18. The spring, which may be adjustable and disposed externally of the casing, may be replaced by a counterweight; the member 18 may support the whole weight of the trough.
