Abstract
902,904. Control of A.C. motors; controllers. TELEDICTOR Ltd., and WICKSTEED & CO. Ltd., CHARLES. Oct. 5, 1960 [July 14, 1959], No. 24084/59. Class 38 (3). Relates to a torque control unit for a series wound A.C. motor having armature Ar and field windings F1, F2, and driving a tube expander tool. A potentiometer RV4 is adjusted to correspond to the motor current for maximum torque, a resistor RV3 being set in accordance with voltmeter M indicating the supply voltage. The unit is operable on different supply voltages, alternative connections being made by a multiway connector between the control unit and motor. As the motor is loaded, a larger current passes through transformer T2 whereby an increasing positive potential is applied to the grid of thyratron Th. When the torque reaches a maximum value, the positive potential overcomes the negative bias from potentiometer RV4, so energizing relay RE. After a short delay period, relay RA responds to stop the motor, followed by a further period at the end of which the motor is reversed by relay RB. When the expander tool is released, switch S2 opens to reset the contacts. The motor is started in the reverse direction by operating switch SR to energize relay RD. In a modification, the voltmeter M is dispensed with and a voltage regulating tube is connected across resistors R7, R8. Specification 791,815 is referred to.
