Abstract
902,152. Discharge tubes. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Aug. 10, 1959 [Aug. 15, 1958], No. 26261/58. Class 39 (1). An electrode support comprises a ceramic body 1, Fig. 2, encircled by a metal frame 2a having pips or lugs 5 projecting into the ceramic. The ceramic is sintered in situ within the frame, the consequent shrinkage causing the ceramic body firmly to grip the projections 5. In other respects the support may be similar to that described in Specification 817,091. As shown, the support is provided with resilient tongues 8 adapted to engage the metal envelope 13, Fig. 4, of the valve, insulating material being interposed between the tongues and the envelope, if desired. The support is mounted by means of rods 11 from the glass base 12 in metal collar 12a which is secured to the envelope 13 by soldering. In a modification, the metal frame 2a is formed with two circumferential lips which engage the upper and lower surfaces of the ceramic body.
