Abstract
899,578. Insulators. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD, LUCAS, D. H., OAKESHOTT, D. F., and FORREST, J. S. Oct. 2, 1959 [Dec. 15, 1958], No. 40406/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. Insulators for suspending overhead line conductors have a conductive path thereon which is so designed as to generate sufficient heat in still ambient air to raise the temperature of the surface to at least 10‹ C; above its surroundings when a voltage of at least 3 kv. per inch is applied. A helical conductive path is applied by spraying, e.g. graphite, on to glass fibre rod provided with sheds of conical or bowlshaped form which may be of insulating material or metallic. A protective coating such as resin may be applied over the graphite.
