Abstract

899,061. Internal shoe-drum brakes. GIRLING Ltd. Nov. 3, 1958 [Nov. 2, 1957], No. 34273/57. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXV] A device for locating a brake shoe web 10, 11 in a position parallel to the brake back plate comprises a U-shaped spring 15 adapted to fit between the shoe web and the head 16 of a pin 17 anchored to the back plate 13 and passing through an opening in the shoe web, aligned central slots 20 being provided in the limbs extending in from their free ends to receive the pin and a transverse channel 21 formed in at least one limb 18, 19 to receive the head 16 of the pin 17 wherein the free end of the limb beyond the channel is inclined inwardly towards the other limb such that the spacing between the free ends of the limbs in the unstressed condition of the spring enables the free ends of the limbs to meet when pressed together before the spring is stressed beyond its elastic limit. The spring is removed by withdrawing the lower limb 19 away from the shoe web in a direction away from the pin 17 so as to cause the upper limb to slide out from under the head 16 of the pin.
