Abstract

898,577. Supply systems for discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 27, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14547/59. Class 38 (4). In a discharge lamp circuit operated through a double-wound or auto transformer 3 and having a capacitor 9 directly connected across the whole or part of the winding 3, additional resistance is provided in series with the capacitor to damp resonant oscillations which may occur particularly on switching on. The resistance may be a high-resistance section of the transformer or a separate resistor 11, which separate resistor may have a large negative temperature coefficient. The resistor may be alternatively connected in series with the supply. The value of the resistor may be less than that necessary to produce non-oscillation to reduce the power loss.
