Abstract
752,797. Protective arrangements; switching systems for transformers. RADIO HEATERS, Ltd. Jan. 25, 1955 [Jan. 25, 1954], No. 2191/54. Class 38 (4). Delayed action of a contactor 8 for shorting out surge-limiting resistors 9 in the primary circuit of a transformer 10, supplying hightension voltage to the oscillators of radio-frequency heating equipment, is obtained by arranging for the operating coil 12 of contactor 8 to be energized in parallel with a resistor having a large positive temperature coefficient (such as a tungsten filament lamp 20) over a common series resistor 15 when a main circuit-breaker 6 is closed, so that the low initial resistance of the lamp prevents immediate operation of the contactor. When the lamp resistance has increased sufficiently, the contactor responds and, in addition to short-circuiting the surge resistors 9, disconnects the lamp 20 and short-circuits resistor 15.
