Abstract

896,716. Boxes &c. UNIPAK CARTONS Ltd. July 22, 1960 [Sept. 16, 1959], No. 25699/60. Class 18. A carton comprises a box having side walls 31, 32, Fig. 10, end walls 33, 34, bottom panels 37, 38 and top panels 35, 36 and an interior assembly A fixed to the end walls 33, 34 which divides the box into two longitudinal compartments. The interior assembly, shown as a single blank at Fig. 1, comprises primary panels 1, 2 anxiliary panel 4 having end tabs 6 and ancillary panels 11, 12. The blank is coated with pressure sensitive adhesive over the areas shaded in Fig. 1 and also on the obverse sides of tabs 3, 16 and 23. The interior assembly is erected by folding the tabs 6 into contact with the panels 4 and then by bringing the primary panels 1, 2 into contact by folding about score line 5, the folding being done in such a manner as to include the tabs 6 within the panels 4 and to bring the adhesively coated portions of the primary panels together. The ancillary panels 11, 12 separated from the primary panels by cuts 9 and score lines 10 and from one another by score lines 13 allow the panels 4 with hand apertures 8 cut therein to act as an extensible handle. At Fig. 10, the handle is shown at its lowermost position, flaps 11 having been bent from their initial vertical position to the position shown. According to the invention the flaps 11, 12 assist the movement of the handle from the lowermost position to the extended position or vice versa after a predetermined amount of movement has been imposed on the handle. The top panel 35, 36 are provided with cut-away portions 39 to form a slot through which the handle may pass. The two longitudinal compartments may be further subdivided by transverse partitions 22 bent out of the primary panels 1, 2 and attached to the side walls 31, 32. To strengthen the interior assembly A and prevent communication between the longitudinal compartments after flaps 22 have been bent into position, a further panel may be placed between the primary panels 1, 2 during erection of the interior assembly.
