896,624. Trolleys for moving vehicles. MITCHELL, F. G. April 25, 1960 [April 23, 1959], No. 13845/59. Class 78 (4). A trolley 10 for moving cars comprises rollers 22 mounted on arms 20, 21 which are movable by power means to a position fore and aft of a wheel 23 in which position the rollers engage the tyre and lift the wheel off the ground. As described, the arms 20, 21 are pivoted to cross-heads 24 which are moved to and fro by electrically operated actuators 28. Cam-blocks 29, 30 co-operate with rollers 31 on the arms 20, 21 to move the arms between their operative and inoperative positions. The front wheels 36 of the car are turned to the straight ahead position and held there by bars 40 which carry a row of balls 41 on their tyreengaging surfaces. The bars 40 are moved outwards by rods 45 attached to one cross-head 24, these rods move rods 47 to the left, thus causing sliding- blocks 48 to be urged to the left by springs 51. The sliding blocks 48 are connected to the bars 40 by links 49, 50. When the bars 40 abut the wheels 36 the lost-motion is absorbed by the springs 51 which are compressed further. In a second embodiment one actuator supplies power for all the above movements, a system of pivoting links connecting the two cross-heads 24 so that they move in opposite directions when power is applied to one of them. Both the above embodiments may alternatively carry swinging arms arranged to lift both front and rear wheels of a vehicle. In this case one pair of arms may be adjustable to accommodate cars of different wheel bases.
