Abstract

895,954. Automatic current control systems. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 13, 1958 [Nov. 14, 1957], No. 35564/57. Class 38 (4). An electric current regulating system comprises a transductor and a tap-changing transformer, the latter being arranged to tap-change so as to maintain the transductor within the limits of its range. A tap-changing transformer 11 supplies a load 15, 18 through a transductor 12 having a feed-back winding supplied from a rectifier 20 connected across the transductor which adjusts the transductor current, as measured by the volt drop across one winding, to a substantially constant value. When the volt drop goes outside a given range the tapchange gear operates to bring the current to the other end of the transductor characteristic. Alternatively the tap-change gear may be arranged to bring the current to the middle of the transductor characteristic. The tap-change gear may be operated by a high and low voltage relays which may be slugged to reduce unnecessary tap-changes. The single phase rectifier 20 may be replaced by a three-phase arrangement.
