Class 39(3) [Also in Group XVII] Apparatus for heating a liquid to a predetermined temperature or for maintaining the liquid at said predetermined temperature comprises an inner container 10 for the liquid having a neck 11 leading to an open end, a close fitting jacket 12 for said inner container formed of electrically insulating material in which is embedded an electrical heating element 13, an outer container 16 surrounding said jacket with the open end of the inner container 10 protruding through said jacket 12 and outer container 16, a collar 17 removably secured to said outer container 16 and surrounding said neck 11 to retain the inner container 10 in the jacket 12, and a thermostat 25 electrically connected in a circuit to the heating element 13 to control the current fed to said heating element. As shown, the inner container 10 is a hexagonal glass feeding bottle secured in an outer container 16 of moulded polyethylene by a rubber ring 18 and a screw collar 17. The jacket 12 is of glass fibre impregnated with resin and is surrounded by a sheet 19 of aluminium foil or asbestos paper to provide additional thermal insulation. The jacket 12 is closed at the bottom by a copper disc 15 which may have concentric ribs on its upper surface. A base member 21 of translucent material is secured to the container 16 by a nylon screw 22 engaging a bush 23 secured to the disc 15 and forms an enclosure for the thermostat 25 mounted on the underside of the disc 15, a pilot lamp 30 and two connection pins 26 mounted on a panel 27 opposite an aperture 28 for the insertion of a connecting socket.
