Abstract

894,597. Optical filters. CANON CAMERA CO. Ltd. Dec. 9, 1958 [March 4, 1958], No. 39733/58. Class 97(1). A photographic filter comprises a flat parallel-sided transparent plate having on its surface a large number of small discrete spots formed from transparent material and being of equal size and thickness; the sum of the areas of the spots is substantially equal to the area of the uncovered part of the surface and the refractive index of the spots is such that, for a particular wavelength of light, the optical thickness of the spots differs by half a wavelength from the optical thickness of a layer of air of the same thickness. Apparatus for making a secondary image from an original which has a periodic structure is shown in Fig. 4 and comprises the original 3, the above filter 5, an objective lens 4, a half tone sheet 7 and a photo sensitive sheet 6; the arrangement being such that the mean diameter of the spots ° = 1#L/m, where # is the wavelength of the light, m is the lens magnification and L is the repetition frequency of the periodic structure of the original.
